Operations Manager

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Manage departments within the workshop to ensure good cohesion and optimised workflow
• Managing stock control and inventory checks
• Ensure that budget requirements are met by optimising workshop activities accordingly
• Ensuring that health and safety regulations are followed
• Documenting procedures for third-party monitoring and control
• Creating and monitoring projects and teams
• Reviewing workloads and manpower to ensure targets are met
• Supporting the company’s vision and process ideals
• Supporting all functions of the business to work together
• Manage the human resource activities within the division including disciplinary actions and training
• Liaise with customers and provide solutions and proposals to enhance customer relationships
• Oversee quotes Specifically, to new customers, on new products and those having excessive costs or special requirements
• Review warranty reports compiled on behalf of the company
• Oversee the purchasing of goods from overseas and local suppliers
• Correlate stock figures at month end through conducting spot checks, while ensuring that ERP system stock values correlate with actual count
• Conduct a monthly assessment of obsolete stock
• Strategy to sell obsolete stock with inputs from the management team
• Design, implement effective and efficient policies and processes to promote accurate and prompt assessment and completion of jobs
• Review completed jobs on basis of actual costing versus planned cost
• Accurate customer stock management via Syspro for service exchange transactions
• Control and monitor all costs incurred within the division
• Ensure all divisional company vehicles are serviced regularly with logbook system and are in good working order at all times
• Ensure compliance with Second Hand Goods Act requirements within the company

• NCR processes to be monitored and managed for all technical and commercial deviations from the quote (plan) sent to a customer

Accountability

• Responsible for profit achieved, including productivity and breakeven analysis
• Ensure timelines are met in line with quotations and other sales related functions
• Ensure quality system is supported, enhanced and adhered to in order to produce superior quality components and work
• Accountable for compliance with health and safety policies in operations
• Accountable for stock levels and the assessment of obsolete stock
• Support to be provided to BEE initiatives
• Management reports to be prepared and submitted monthly
• Operations budget complied annually, which feeds into the overall company budget

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Proven work experience as Operations Manager or similar role, preferably in an off-highway vehicle drive train company, managing technical staff. Off highway vehicle drive train and hydraulic cylinder experience would be an advantage
• Knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management
• Financial Management regarding profitability and cost control, budgeting and forecasting

• Sound understanding of business principles, including strategic planning experience

• New Product/Service Development experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Leadership and mentoring ability
• Outstanding organisational skills
• Qualification in Business, Operations Management or related field would be advantageous

•Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products

•Syspro experience would be a significant advantage

• Valid driver’s license
